Another reason for a trust…..read on:

READER QUESTION:

My daughter is 17, has slight autism, and struggles with schoolwork and anxiety in crowded environments. I cannot predict her ability to self-sustain and need to establish a trust that will help manage her bills for home and savings without her ability to liquidate foolishly for herself or those who have influence over her decisions.

MY RESPONSE:

This is a very common reason for a trust. For whatever reason, if our children or grandchildren simply cannot or should not handle an inheritance, it would be appropriate to leave it to them in a trust. The trust will be managed by a trustee, who will invest and properly distribute the money for your daughter’s needs as they arrive.
