CLIENT QUESTION:
Can I add my four grandsons to my Will over the phone? I’m 89 and I would prefer not to drive to the office. Thank you.
MY RESPONSE:
The day has not arrived when you can sign your New York will over the phone or computer (a la Docusign). New York (and I believe all states) has strict laws on how a Will must be executed, and having us change your will because you called and told us to is not among them. If necessary, we can arrange for a signing in your home (extra travel fees will apply).
We can, however, get the information for your changes over the phone or by Facetime or Zoom. Video consults are now commonplace in our office. The world is changing.
But I want to encourage you to come to the office for the signing of the documents. If you can drive, then drive. If not, perhaps ask a relative or friend to bring you here….or call an UBER. We have all the witnesses and notaries in the office and the ability to make last-minute changes to your documents.
We hope to see you soon.
I hope this helps! |
