Dear clients and friends,
My initial research regarding the property tax due date was incorrect and I wanted to alert all of you as soon as possible. It was just brought to my attention that there IS an extended deadline in place. Here’s the exact announcement from Suffolk County:
County Comptroller Kennedy Announces Property Tax Extension Deadline to June 20th without Penalty
May 28th, 2020 (Hauppague, NY) – Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy announced today, the extension of the real property tax deadline to June 20 (payment due next business day Monday, June 22) without penalty or interest, in accordance with the New York State executive order. Tax payments made after June 2 should be paid directly to the Suffolk County Comptroller’s Office in Riverhead.
“The COVID-19 public health crisis has created catastrophic hardships for many people, particularly in Suffolk County, one of the areas hardest hit by the pandemic,” said Comptroller Kennedy. “Extending the real property tax deadline to June 22 without penalty or interest will give residents a much-needed grace period in order to meet their real property tax obligation,” he said.
The Suffolk County Comptroller’s Office is located at 330 Center Drive, Riverhead, NY 11901. Please contact the County Comptroller at 631-852-3000 with any questions.
As far as Nassau County, this is the most recent information available, although
the deadline has already passed:
Nassau County – Second half school taxes are normally due on April 1 st , however the deadline to pay without penalty was May 11 th . Due to Covid, the deadline to pay second half Nassau County school taxes without interest or penalty is now extended to June 1 st . As of today, it doesn’t appear that the County Executive requested another extension beyond June 1 st .
NOTE: It is extremely possible that further extensions have or will be announced and we will report that information as soon as it is made available. If anyone hears of any property tax deadline extensions that are different from what we’ve reported, please let us know so we can share that information with everyone.
I certainly hope this information is helpful and apologize for the confusion. At least it’s GOOD NEWS for a change. I am happy to be wrong!
