ALERT
SSI CHANGES ITS RULES FOR THE BETTER
SSI is Supplemental Security Income. It provides income for low-income people who happen to be old or disabled. The rule used to be that if someone else paid for your food, clothing, or shelter, then the amount of that payment reduced your SSI check up to one-third. I can tell you that it has always been a great burden on the recipients, their families, and the government to keep track of all this stuff. Years ago they eliminated clothing from the rules, leaving just food and shelter.
Good News: On September 30th, 2024 food will no longer be counted.
Therefore, if someone buys you food or takes you out to dinner, it will result in no reduction of your SSI check.
This is big news for the disabled community. Yoo hoo!!!!
